Keeping Your Personal Information Safe

We’d like to let you know about an important update to how we protect your personal information. Our practice software provider, PracSuite, has recently achieved ISO 27001 certification. While that might sound technical, it simply means their systems for keeping your information safe have been independently checked and meet very high international standards.

When you visit Highett Podiatry, you trust us with your personal and medical information.

This update means:

  • Your information is stored securely using systems that meet strict global safety standards
  • There are strong processes in place to protect your data from being accessed or shared incorrectly
  • Staff are trained to handle your information carefully and responsibly
  • There are clear plans in place to respond quickly if any security issue were to occur
  • Importantly, this isn’t a one-off check — these systems are regularly reviewed and improved to keep your information safe over time.

If you have any questions about how your information is managed, please feel free to speak with our team.

Foot Focus: Pitted Keratolysis

Pitted keratolysis is a common but often overlooked skin condition affecting the soles of the feet. It’s caused by bacterial overgrowth in moist environments (e.g., long hours in closed shoes or excessive sweating) and is recognisable by small crater-like pits on the skin, white or grey discolouration, and a strong, unpleasant odour.

Diagnosis is straightforward for a podiatrist: a visual examination, assessment of moisture and odour, and a review of your footwear and hygiene habits are usually all that’s needed to tell it apart from similar conditions like athlete’s foot.

The good news is it’s very treatable. Options include topical antibiotics, antibacterial washes, debridement of affected skin, and clinical-strength antiperspirants to manage sweating.

Breathable footwear, moisture-wicking socks and antibacterial foot powders all play a supporting role too. In more persistent cases, our endorsed podiatrists Sophie Young and Peter Moate are able to prescribe oral antibiotics where needed.

If your feet have been less than fragrant lately, don’t be embarrassed — it’s more common than you’d think, and we can help.

Beth's Visit to Parliament House in Canberra: Call for Paid Placements for Allied Health Students

We’re proud to share that our Allied Health Assistant, Beth Kerr, recently had the opportunity to attend a media conference at Parliament House, advocating for greater support for students across the allied health sector.

The event supported Allied Health Professions Australia’s call to expand the Commonwealth Prac Payment to include all allied health students undertaking mandatory clinical placements.

Beth attended alongside a select group of allied health students from a range of disciplines, as well as members of the Australian Podiatry Association’s advocacy team, Judy Howell and Angela Harper. Together, they joined Independent MP Dr Helen Haines, Senator David Pocock, and Allied Health Professions Australia to speak with the media about the financial challenges students face during placements.

Clinical placements are an essential part of training the future allied health workforce, yet they often come with significant financial pressure.

The group highlighted the importance of fair and equitable support across all health disciplines, helping ensure students can complete their training without unnecessary hardship.

A national petition has also been launched to advocate for fair and inclusive access to placement payments, aiming to ease financial stress and better support students throughout their studies.

We’re incredibly proud of Beth for being involved in such an important initiative.
