Clinic News

March brings some fresh updates from the team.

Tristan will be away from the clinic for the next three weeks while he fulfils his civic duty serving on a jury. We wish him well and thank our patients for their understanding during that time.

On a brighter note, we’re delighted to welcome Beth Kerr as our newest Allied Health Assistant. You may already recognise Beth from behind the reception desk. She’s now stepped into a clinical support role and is available for appointments on Thursdays. More on Beth below.

We’re also thrilled to announce that Swift Microwave Therapy is now available at Highett Podiatry. It’s a game-changing treatment for stubborn plantar warts that we’re very excited to offer our patients.

Foot Focus: Stubborn Plantar Warts & Swift Therapy

Plantar warts are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) infecting the skin on the sole of the foot. They often become painful due to the pressure of walking and standing and can be tricky to shift (especially when over-the-counter treatments haven’t worked). Common signs include a rough, thickened patch of skin, small black dots within the lesion, pain that feels like stepping on a pebble, and sometimes clusters of multiple warts.

A podiatrist can usually diagnose a plantar wart through clinical examination, including careful debridement to reveal characteristic features and rule out similar-looking conditions like corns or calluses.

Treatment options at Highett Podiatry include topical salicylic acid treatments, cryotherapy (liquid nitrogen freezing), debridement and immune-stimulating therapies. For persistent or treatment-resistant warts, we now offer Swift Microwave Therapy — one of the most advanced options available.

Swift uses a handheld device to deliver controlled microwave energy into the wart, triggering a heat-shock response that stimulates your immune system to fight the virus naturally without breaking the skin. Most patients require just three sessions spaced four weeks apart, with no downtime. Success rates sit at 80–85%, and any discomfort is brief and manageable. If you’ve been struggling with stubborn warts, this could be the solution you’ve been waiting for.

Meet Beth Kerr – Allied Health Assistant

Beth is currently in her third year of podiatry studies and brings a wonderful mix of enthusiasm, curiosity and lived experience to the role.

Before podiatry, Beth spent many years in dance and ballet, and her background as a performer sparked a deep interest in biomechanics and how the feet and lower limbs influence movement and performance – a passion that led her naturally to podiatry.

Outside the clinic, Beth is never short of a topic of conversation, especially if it involves Moodle, Oskar, or her side hustle as a dog trainer.

Beth is available on Thursdays. If you see her around the clinic, please say hello and make her feel welcome!
