It's Podiatry Week
Podiatry Week is an annual campaign that raises awareness of ankle and foot health and the essential role podiatrists play in healthcare.
From a child’s very first steps, podiatrists play a crucial role in ensuring kids walk, run, and grow with confidence.
As you move through life chasing sporting goals, staying active for better health, or recovering from injury, podiatrists help keep you moving pain-free.
When life brings new challenges, from managing diabetes to staying mobile in later years, podiatrists are here to support every next step, big or small.
It’s not just lower limb, ankle and foot problems. It’s about movement, independence, and quality of life at every age and stage.
Whether it’s a child finding their stride, an athlete hitting their stride, or an older adult maintaining their stride, podiatrists are there for every step of the journey.
Highett Podiatry sees patients from newborns to our oldest patient, who is 104 years old. Treating over 12,000 patients over the last 28 years, we continue to strive to keep our patients moving efficiently and pain-free.
Keep an eye out in the media this week for Foot health and Podiatry stories and information.
Goodbye and Good Luck, Caitlyn
Goodbye and Good Luck, Caitlyn
After nine wonderful years, it’s time to say farewell and best wishes to Caitlyn as she embarks on the next exciting chapter of her career — stepping into the world as a fully qualified podiatrist in the public health sector.
Caitlyn first joined our clinic at just 15 years old, completing her Year 10 work experience placement. Even then, her enthusiasm, curiosity, and warmth stood out. Over the years, she has grown from a bright, capable student into a confident, compassionate professional. From her early days on reception to her invaluable work as an Allied Health Assistant, Caitlyn has been an integral part of our team — always reliable, kind, and ready to lend a hand.
It has been a privilege to watch her journey unfold. Her dedication to learning, her genuine care for patients, and her unwavering commitment to podiatry have been genuinely inspiring. The professionalism and empathy she brings to every role are qualities that will no doubt make her an excellent podiatrist and colleague in her new workplace.
While we will miss her cheerful presence and the energy she brought to our team, we couldn’t be prouder of all she has achieved. Caitlyn leaves behind a legacy of hard work, growth, and friendship — and we know she will continue to make a positive difference wherever her career takes her.
Congratulations, Caitlyn — we wish you every success and happiness in the exciting journey ahead!
Our own Kerry May heads up Wounds Australia
This month, we’re proud to spotlight Kerry May, one of our talented podiatrists and the current Chair of Wounds Australia, who recently shared her expert advice on wound management and the critical role podiatrists play in early intervention and holistic care.
With over 30 years of experience across public and private healthcare, Kerry emphasises that podiatrists are uniquely skilled in wound offloading, making them essential in the treatment and prevention of foot wounds — particularly in high-risk patients.
Kerry encourages clinicians to know their limits, build strong referral networks, and never hesitate to escalate care if a wound isn’t healing within 4–6 weeks. She also emphasises the importance of educating patients, reducing the stigma surrounding chronic wounds, and capitalising on the trusted relationships that podiatrists often establish with their clients.
Kerry reminds all podiatrists to take advantage of Wounds Australia’s free consumer resources and to consider joining both Wounds Australia and the Australian Podiatry Association to stay connected and supported in their professional journey.

Taking Podiatry to the Community
Our clinic offers engaging presentations for community groups on podiatry and foot health, designed to raise awareness and provide practical strategies for maintaining healthy, pain-free feet.
A key focus is on foot health, walking pain-free and falls prevention, where we explain how foot posture, footwear, balance, and muscle strength all play an important role in reducing the risk of falls—particularly for older adults. We also discuss maximising mobility, showing how good foot health supports independence, physical activity, and overall wellbeing.
Presentations cover common foot and ankle injuries, such as plantar fasciitis, heel pain, Achilles tendon problems, and ankle sprains. We explain the early warning signs, causes, and how podiatry care—combined with appropriate footwear and exercises—can speed recovery and reduce the chance of recurrence.
Other topics include diabetic foot care, arthritis management, skin and nail health, and choosing the right shoes for different stages of life. Each session is interactive, practical, and tailored to the audience, whether seniors’ groups, carers, sporting clubs, or local organisations.
By the end of a presentation, participants leave with the tools and confidence to care for their feet, reduce their risk of injury, and keep moving safely and comfortably.
Kinder Screenings at Marcus Road Kindergarten
Highett Podiatry is excited to be visiting Marcus Road Kindergarten to conduct our annual kinder screenings!
Checking the health of young, growing feet is incredibly important — early detection of potential issues can help prevent bigger problems down the track. During our screenings, we’ll be looking at foot development, walking patterns, posture and overall lower limb health to ensure your child is on the right path (literally!).
At Highett Podiatry, we’re passionate about helping kids stay active, pain-free, and confident as they grow. We’re proud to support local kindergartens, such as Marcus Road, in promoting early foot health awareness.
If you’d like to learn more about the screening process or how to proceed with a complete assessment at one of our clinics, please do not hesitate to contact our friendly team. We’re here to help — every step of the way.
What We’re Watching — Staff Picks
Here at Highett Podiatry, we know the feeling — spending more time browsing than actually watching. That’s why this month, we’ll be sharing our top picks to help you cut through the clutter and get straight to the good stuff.
Kirsti recommends Man on the Bus (Foxtel) — a compelling Australian documentary following psychologist-filmmaker Eve Ash as she uncovers her mother’s hidden past as a Holocaust survivor, with a story that unfolds right here on the North Road bus from Murrumbeena to Brighton. She also loves The Lost City of Melbourne (SBS), a fascinating look at Melbourne’s lost architectural heritage and the elegant buildings lost to modernisation in the 1950s.
Anureet is watching Emily in Paris (Netflix) for something fun and fashion-forward, and recommends the class
