Onyfix Nail Bracing
Are you looking for a solution for that chronic ingrown toenail that is pain-free that doesn’t involve surgery?
Introducing the Onyfix nail correction system
Onyfix is the latest conservative nail treatment option for chronic ingrown and involuted toenails using composite nail bracing that reshapes the nail to allow it to grow naturally and reshape it to be less curved.
At Highett Podiatry, our Podiatrist will discuss and offer you numerous options for the management of your ingrown toenail, including the use of the Onyfix system. The entire process is pain-free, from start to finish.
Chronic Ingrown toenails can be painful and restrictive. Onyfix provides an alternative treatment option for patients who may not be suited for ingrown toenail surgery, such as those with a needle phobia, who be diabetic, pregnant or breastfeeding.
How does it work?
Onyfix is a proven successful nail correction system, which helps ingrown or involuted toenails grow back to their natural shape without the need for surgery and is pain-free.
Onyfix uses a hardened composite material that is cured by an LED light and acts like a brace on the nail plate. The brace ensures that the nail keeps a comfortable curvature as it grows from the base of the nail until the end, thus reshaping the pathway for the new nail growth.
How to use Onyfix for treating an ingrown toenail?
The Onyfix system is cured/set to your toenail for about 2-3 months. When the toenail grows, the Onyfix will grow with the toenail and help the toenail grow in the correct position. In this time additional bands can be applied to the toenail to ensure the desired result.
We recommend 3-4 bands over a 12 month period to assist with the straightening of your nails. Once complete, the composite is removed and the nail should continue to grow naturally and comfortably.

How is Onyfix applied?
To prepare the toenail before the Onyfix application, one of our podiatrists will file and smooth your toenail to flatten your toenail for application. The Onyfix is then applied and cured with a UV light. The application process usually takes 15-20 minutes on top of your podiatry consult.
What is the cost?
The cost for a nail brace is $78 per toe charged alongside a consultation by one of our trained podiatrists.
Is Onyfix painful?
Onyfix is usually comfortable and doesn’t cause much pain. However, some patients might feel a little pressure or sensitivity when it’s first applied, but that feeling usually goes away soon after.
How long will it last?
Typically a nail brace should last 2-3 months before re-application is required. Activities such as dancing, running and swimming may reduce the life span of a nail brace. Bracing may be required for 12 months in order to reshape involuted nails and reduce the risk of them becoming ingrown.
Can I wear nail polish with Onyfix?
It’s usually best to skip nail polish while using Onyfix so we can keep an eye on your nail and adjust the brace if needed.
