Plantar warts, verrucae and papillomas are all common names used for a skin condition caused by Human Papilloma Virus (HPV).

A common place to contract warts is a swimming pool or communal shower. The HPV virus can sit in the rough non slip surface on the floor and can enter the body through minor abrasions in the soles of the feet; this is why wearing thongs in the shower or around the public pool is so important!

Warts commonly have a ‘cauliflower’ appearance with an uneven and bubbly surface and discomfort will be experienced if the lesion has pressure applied from the side. This is often different to a corn which usually appears as a darker circle that is painful if pressure is applied directly in the center.

If you suspect you have plantar warts, you should seek treatment advice from your podiatrist.

At Highett Podiatry, our podiatrists will be able to assess and advise you of the most appropriate management to treat your plantar warts and stop the spread of the virus to other parts of your foot or body.

There are many different treatment options available and your podiatrist will be able to help you decide on the best plan for you. These can include:
